Tonight we had our second annual "Outdoor Movie Night." The inclement weather has postponed our outdoor movie for several weeks, but tonight we finally were able take our TV outside.
Last year when we moved our television outdoors we watched one of my childhood favorite movies Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. This evening's feature film was also one of my favorites growing up - Swiss Family Robinson. What child doesn't dream of being able to live in a tree house like the Robinson family? I know I did.
The temperature tonight was an ideal 75 degrees with an occasional light breeze. The skies were clear and we were able to view the stars. For the second year in a row I have experienced that there is something extra special about pulling the BIG television outside. I imagine this is what a "drive-in" movie theater would have felt like years ago. Being out-of-doors gives an sense like being indoors just can't compete with. And like most drive-in movie goers we too began our movie viewing time with popcorn and Coca-Cola.
Unlike last year, Isaac participated with us tonight. (And Joshua, too.) Isaac had such an enjoyable time. He was completely engrossed in the movie -- especially enjoying the tiger, elephant, pirates, and tree house.
And for our "sweet" this evening we had Swiss Cake Rolls. Olivia thought it was quite clever to have a dessert that fit our movie theme so well. J
These are the types of memories I enjoy creating for my children. I pray that they will each be able to look back on their childhood as fun. As adults we occasionally forget to slow down and have fun. But in order to keep life in perspective, having fun once in a while is necessary ... and sometimes it means pulling the MASSIVE television set outside. J
That's fun to have another outdoor movie night! You are creating wonderful family memories together. :) I'm glad Isaac got to watch this time. I've thought about reading and watching Swiss Family Robinson.
